HAWA has been trying to make a dent in the pet overpopulation in Haywood County by making spay/neuter very affordable to county residents. The $30 special which fills up our limited transport space has proven to be successful by encouraging people to act now and take advantage of the special pricing. However, for every animal we sign up at $30, HAWA has to come up with $20 to subsidize the surgery. Obviously we cannot keep this up forever without donations to cover these costs. Please think about donating to HAWA so that we can continue to prevent litters of unwanted puppies and kittens being euthanized at the County Shelter. Learn how to Donate to HAWA |

Haywood Animal Welfare Association, Inc. (HAWA) provides pet food at county food pantries distributing much needed pet food to pet owning low-income individuals and families and to Meals on Wheels for the pet owning shut-ins they serve. The pet food distributed helps these pet owners keep their pets healthy and well nourished and because they don’t have to spend scarce funds on pet food, they can purchase more nourishing food for themselves. Demand at the food pantries HAWA supplies has risen by 20% from the beginning of the year. Supplies are short and hard to come by. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. |

HAWA has received two grants which allow us to offer free spay/neuter at Humane Alliance Spay Neuter Clinic in Asheville for those who receive government paid public assistance, Medicare, food stamps, etc. Bring proof of assistance and all of your cats and dogs can be neutered for only the cost of the required shots. |
